PRIVATE EVENT – The Empathy School: Practices that Promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging to Transform You and Your Classroom
This is a highly interactive and customized professional development program for all staff employed at the Pre-K to 5th grade magnet academies of St, Martin’s Parish, Lafayette, LA. The program includes the following:
· Discuss and understand the role of empathy and particularly perspective-taking as a cognitive capability, as well as culturally responsive teaching and learning to foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI-B) to support racially diverse and underserved children of Saint Martin Parish magnet schools consistent with the existing desegregation goals
· Examine and practice EQ: self-awareness, self-regulations, motivation, empathy, and social skills with teachers, staff, and administrators to build DEI-B in Saint Martin Parish schools
· Engage evidence-based, trauma-informed mindfulness practices to support a culture of respect and understanding for all children
