AWAKENED ACTION: What Blooms in the Ashes (In Person and Online 2026)

With Roshi Joan Halifax, Terry Tempest Williams, Valerie Brown, Rebecca Solnit, Molly Crockett, and Christiana Figueres.

November 13-15, 2026

This in person program on Socially Engaged Buddhism brings together a group of teachers, writers, and scholars for shared reflection and practice at Upaya Zen Center. The program will be led by Roshi Joan Halifax, Terry Tempest Williams, Valerie Brown, Rebecca Solnit, Molly Crockett, and Christiana Figueres.

Awakened action, what blooms in the ashes, is a place to affirm our vows to not only find beauty in a broken world, but to create beauty where we stand, to practice wild mercy, and to remember that our relatives are everywhere.

Together, participants will engage teachings, dialogue, and contemplative practice grounded in the tradition of Socially Engaged Buddhism. The program offers time and space to gather in community, listen deeply, and explore questions of practice, responsibility, and relationship in a residential retreat setting.

The program begins Friday evening and concludes on Sunday after lunch. Participants are invited to join onsite or online. Onsite registration is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
