The World We Know Is Possible: A BIPOC Retreat
With Valerie Brown, Wendy Dainin Lau, and Ro Grace
Friday, August 13 – Sunday, August 15, 2027
Upaya Zen Center, Santa Fe, New Mexico
The World We Know Is Possible brings Black, Indigenous, and People of Color together for a weekend of rest, reflection, and community. Rooted in mindfulness and connection with the natural world, the retreat offers space to honor our stories, renew our spirits, and experience the belonging that grows when we are together.
Through contemplative practice, we will explore how to care for ourselves while remaining engaged with the world around us. What helps us meet difficult times with courage and generosity? Where do we find joy, even as we work toward justice? These questions invite us to listen deeply and reconnect with the possibilities we can nurture in our lives and communities.
The weekend will include Dharma teachings, guided sitting and gentle moving meditation, mindful walking and eating, writing and reflection, ritual, and group sharing. No previous meditation experience is needed. The retreat is open to all self-identified BIPOC/Global Majority persons.
